The memorable milestones

- 27^th November 1992: Minister of MOET signed the decision on training allowance of 4 pilot fields at Open Learning Institute N^oI (presently Hanoi Open University): Business Administration, Accounting, English, and Computer Sciences

- December 1992: Rector of OLI N^oI invived the leading Scientifics and specialists to establish the acting Academic Board of Information Technology at OLI N^oI included:

Prof. Dr. Sc. Phan Dinh Dieu, Prof. Dr. Thai Thanh Son, Prof. Nguyen Xuan Huy, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, Prof. Nguyen Van Ba, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Gia Hieu, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Quang Thai, and Prof. Dr. Pham Van At

- 4^th March 1993: decision of MOET on establishing the Faculty of Computer Sciences (FCS) at OLI N^oI along with two other Faculties: Economics and Foreign Languages.

The Rector of OLI N^oI appointed Prof. Thai Thanh Son as Dean and Mrs. Le Hong Nga, Eng. as Vice -Dean of FCS.

* 15^th March 1993: Beginning of the classes of  FCS included 26 full time students of class 93-01A and 21 2^nd degree specialty students of class 91-01A. The Faculty changed its appellation into Faculty of IT (FIT) decided to take March 15^th every year as its Anniversary Date. (The March 4^th is a common date for the 3 faculties: Economics, Foreign Languages and FIT)

          The specialty of Management Informatics was first time registered for training in Viet Nam.

* 3^rd November 1993:  Foundation of the Hanoi Open University (HOU) by a decision signed by the Prime Minister.

          Representative from FIT participated to CIFFAD (The International Committee for Distance Education of World using countries) at its annual conference in Mauritius

- October 1995: The first Graduation ceremony for FIT students.

- July 1998: FIT moved to the new Campus at De La Thanh St. (the present Campus N^o2)

The President of HOU decided to create the full-fledged Academic Board of FIT with Prof. Thai Thanh Son as President, Prof. Phan Dinh Dieu as Scientific advisor, A/Prof, Nguyen Duc Nghia as Vice President-Scientific secretary.

Formation of 5 departments at FIT :

1/ Dept. of Mathematics, Chairman : A/Prof. Nguyen Dich

2/ Dept. of Computer Sciences, Chairman: Senior Lecturer Duong Viet Thang

3/ Dept. of Information systems, Chairman : A/Prof Nguyen Gia Hieu

4/ Dept. of Social sciences & Humanity, Chairman: Senior Lecturer Doan Van Duc

5/ Dept. of English for special purposes, Chairwoman : Mrs. Lecturer Doan Duc Hanh

- January 2001 : Commencing of Distance Training at FIT.

Creation of the website : www.fithou.edu.vn.

Running of online training technology, first time in Vietnam, at FITHOU CYBERSCHOOL

Foundation of two centers at FIT by decision of The HOU President:

1/ Center for Equipment & Systems Management

2/ Center for Online Instructional Technology

- Appointment of Mr. Luong Cao Dong, MS. as Vice Dean of FIT

- Election of the Academic Board, 3^rd  session.

          Since 2005, every year, FITHOU received regularly :

                   - 350 full time students

                   - 220 part time students

                   - 100 undergraduate students

                   - 100 students for 2^nd specialty

                   - 500 students for Open-Distance Training

FITHOU already prepared all pre-requirement to receive the permission from MOET and HOU for postgraduate training in 2 specialties: Software Engineering and Information Systems.
