In order to sum up and to evaluate the results achieved since the previous GMS-VU annual conference & workshop ( Yogyakarta - Indonesia 2006 ), as well as to co-ordinate the working plan for next steps of the project, this year the 2007 annual GMS - VU workshop has been held in Bangkok from March 11 to 14, hosted by the SukhoThai Thammathirat Open University - STOU - of Thailand.
Official member institutions : STOU (Thailand), HOU (Vietnam), YNU ( Yunnan Normal University - China ), YRTU ( Yunnan Radio-television University - China), Ministry of Education&Higher Education of the Laos People Democratic Republic, and The Royal University of Cambodia, were attending the workshop (delegates from Myanmar could not come). Besides, there were also the presence of delegates from some international institutions interested with the project: The Asian Institute of Technology - AIT, the Mekong Institute, and the Open University of Malaysia - OUM.
In 3 working days chaired by Dr. Molly Lee, senoir specialist of UNESCO Banglok, the participants presented their recent activities in the realization the plan assigned to each member institution since the previous Yogyakarta workshop. Member institutions were also proposing their own plan in the next coming period .
The meeting was also evaluating and discussing to approve the 4 ( of 6 ) modules of core courses “Tourism in GMS” and 6 modules of elective courses realized by the member institutions. The final formatting of these modules in order to post on the Internet environment for free use of all interested users will be assigned to HOU (Center of Online Instructional Technology - COIT - Faculty of Information Technology)
The meeting was also discussing about the copyright of the materials, methods for delivering and evaluation in training when using these materials and also the production of version of materials registered on CD and VCD.
The Vietnamese delegation included: Trinh Xuan Dung, from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Vu An Dan, lecturer from the Tourism Faculty - HOU and Le Huu Dung, lecturer from COIT - FITHOU. Vietnamese participants has presented the content of the 2nd elective course: Sustainable Tourism Development and the transformation of other modules into web - interactions. Right at the first session the presentation of the online training management system and the web - interactive system of training materials delivering realized at COIT - FITHOU was able to attract special attention of all participants. Thehe materials can be transformed into appropriate form suitable for the presentation on websites of member institutions and for the “Common creative”system of open coursewares.
After 3 full working days - with the kind hospitality of the host institution STOU - the closing session of the successful 2007 annual workshop of GMS - VU was held on March 14, 2007 at The SukhoThai Thammathirat Open Unversity.
