On 19-10-2004, an annual conference of Fithou Scientific and Academic Board was held at the meeting hall A, Campus 1 of Hanoi Open University with the participation of all members in the Board and the faculty staffs. Especially, it is an honour to welcome Dr. Nguyen Kim Truy, professor and Head of Hanoi Open University, as well as managers from General Office, Training office, Finance and Plan office, Distance training Research and Promoting Center.
Significant resolutions to training and scientific research of the faculty in 2004-2005 were made in the conference. |

Organization:
• From the year 2004-2005 on, the board has been put under a new name of Scientific and Academic Board of FIT which emphasizes on its role of research and leading the training activities of the faculty. The elements of the board are the dean, deputy deans, departments and centers’ heads. In addition, two prestigious scientists who have been collaborators to FIT since its early days were assigned to the Board.

• Starting from the year 2004-2005, we will submit to HOU’s managing board a development-basing plan of new specialized departments to be approved. FIT is gonging to be scheduled to include seven departments and two centers:
1. Department of Applied Mathematics (as origin)
2. Department of Social Sciences and Humanity (as origin)
3. Department of English for Special Purposes (under establishment)
4. Department of Computer Science (splitter)
5. Department of Software Engineering (splitter)
6. Department of IT and communication networking (under establishment)
7. Department of Information Systems (as origin)
Scientific research and training activities:
• In 2005, we will ask for permission from Ministry of Education and Training to implement an experimental post-graduation course of Business Information Systems Managing.
• From the year 2004-2005, the enrolment will be of the following two limited specialities:
Code 101: Business Information Systems Managing
Code 106: Software Engineering
• We will ask for permission from Ministry of Education and Training to carry out an interchangeable training course to promote technicians to Higher level
• Minister-leveled scientific thesis named “Training Technology Renovation” will be soon completed and turned into practice in FIT
Expected total number of students of FIT in 2004-2005 are as follows:
- Fulltime Training: 1200 students
- Part-time on-service Training: 600 students
- Distance Training: 1200 students
- Second Degree Training: 300 students
- Total number: 3.300 students
Additionally, Technicians and LCCI Training course by Business Information Systems Managing Center will obtain approximately 500 students (including associating centers)
• Fit will set an experimental ground for high technologies and new training technologies, as well as develop infrastructure of software and hardware for “Cyber School of FITHOU”

The Board spent a great deal of time discussing the draft of training schedules for the two limited specialities. The departments were commissioned to continue studying and contributing their ideas to the schedules for the Board to approve. Then they will be proposed to the Ministry and HOU Managing Board for the application from the course of 2003-2007. |
To estimate the conference’s achievements, Dr. Nguyen Kim Truy, Professor and Head of HOU, stated that it is an outstanding advance in HOU of promoting FIT’s quality of scientific research and training to the higher degree to satisfy requirements of industrialization and modernization in national Information Technology.
